Candace Hoeppner has done a lot of work to see that the registration of long-guns ends in Canada and she still is working hard to see that a couple of votes in the House of Commons approve her private member’s bill, C-391. She had a good interview about the process. As usual, keep in touch with your MP to support the bill. She says a number of NDP and possibly one Liberal are likely to vote for the bill but the Liberal leadership is asking all Liberals to oppose the bill. We shall see in September whether the bill goes to the Senate this year.

I heard she only has a grade 12 education,
not enough in my opinion to be making decisions for all of us. Grade 12 education get jobs at Safeway. talk about the dumbing down of Canada.
Good judgment is what we need in Parliament and good judgment does not come with a parchment.
My father had Grade 10. He raised us well and always exercised sound judgment.
A lot of very successful people did not do well in school nor attended university/college. When I was at university I saw many people do well in courses but were absolutely twits. If you want someone to do rocket-science for you, hire someone with the credentials by all means, but we need people in parliament from all walks of life to be representative.
Good judgment may not come with parchment, but the university experience does force a level of maturity and reflection on people that someone without it does not possess. In Parliament, especially, I’d be far more comfortable with people proposing legislation who know what they’re talking about. A background in criminology or social work would make me more comfortable taking her opinions as anything more than ‘just following orders’.
