I think the last amount I remember was 7 billion dollars in one year. That is an incredible amount of money. I could imagine them using that amount of money if they were burning it to heat the building. I think most of it is actually spent in buying other companies and their IP. What's left over is spent on telling the World how much they spend on "research". I often wonder about the billions Microsoft says they spend on research.
