SJVN, Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols is no longer there. There has been a “parting of the ways”.

Ziff Davis Enterprise, the publisher of Linux-Watch, and I have come to a parting of the ways. I do not know what the company plans to do with Linux-Watch. But, if you want to follow my continued reporting and commentary about all things Linux, and other things that catch my fancy, I invite you all to join me at my news and opinion blog site Practical Technology, www.practical-tech.com.

Henry Kingman, “executive editor of Ziff Davis Enterprise’s DeviceForge group”, has published a couple of articles.

I have no clue if this means a change in direction or is a matter of moving on. SJVN has expressed displeasure with the UltraBoard script which runs those forums (haven’t we all…) and he has been a bit tolerant of trollish behaviour (for my tastes) but I have found his articles insightful and having a little more depth than some. SJVN has been in the business a long time and knows where the skeletons are buried. I hope DesktopLinux, Linux-Watch and SJVN all prosper in 2008 and beyond, interesting times for GNU/Linux.

My Mission

My observations and opinions about IT are based on 40 years of use in science and technology and lately, in education. I like IT that is fast, cost-effective and reliable. I do not care whether my solution is the same as yours. I like to think for myself.

My first use of GNU/Linux in 2001 was so remarkably better than what I had been using, I feel it is important work to share GNU/Linux with the world. I have been blessed by working in schools where students and school systems have benefited by good, modular software easily installed in most systems.

I have shown GNU/Linux to thousands of students and hundreds of teachers over the years and will continue in some way doing that until I die in spite of the opposition.
