After ten days in Shamattawa, I can say one of the great things about being here is the mushrooms. Look what I find within a few hundred metres of my house:![]()

Species I have identified so far:
- Suillus – plentiful everywhere
- Leccinum boreale – scattered under spruce, pine and poplar
- Shaggy Mane – a few places along bull-dozed roads
- Short-stemmed bolete/Suillus brevipes – scattered under spruce and pine
- Gem-studded puffball – in yards, roadsides and scattered throughout spruce, pine and poplar
- Sarcodon imbricatus – scattered under pine/spruce – small so far, not like Wasagamack where they were giants.
